dar mai-kada KHud saqi-o-KHammar tu budi
dar mai-kada ḳhud sāqī-o-ḳhammār tū buudī
ḳhud bāda-o-ḳhud majlis-o-ḳhud yaar tū buudī
In the tavern, You were the cupbearer, the merchant of wine, and the very wine itself.
You were the gathering, the fellowship, and the beloved for whom the heart longs.
dar air-e-ḳharābāt tuī rind-e-qadah-nosh
dar soma.a ḳhud zāhid-e-hushyār tū buudī
In the wine-house, You were the reveler and the drunkard;
In the cloister, You were the vigilant ascetic.
ḳhud mast ze-jām-e-mai-e-tauhīd tū gashtī
mansūr kujā ḳhud ba-sar-e-dār tū buudī
It was You who drank deep of the wine of Oneness;
On the scaffold it was not Mansur revealed—it was You alone.
paiġhām sū-e-ḳhvesh rasāndī ze-ḳhud īñ-jā
jibrīl tuī ahmad-e-muḳhtār tū buudī
The message You carried, You entrusted to none; You conveyed it unto Yourself.
You were Gabriel, and You were the Prophet, both the herald and the receiver of truth.
ḳhud 'auhadī-o-āshiq-e-sargashta-o-hairāñ
ḳhud nāz-o-ada-ishva-e-dil-dār tū buudī
O Auhadi, it is You who stand bewildered, lost in the splendour of Your own mystery.
For the grace, the charm, and the radiant love of the Beloved—all are none but You.
