ba-yar KHusham jam-e-sharab aula-tar
bā-yār ḳhusham jām-e-sharāb aulā-tar
vaz dast-e-ġhamam dīda-e-pur-āb aulā-tar
chuuñ ’ālam-e-dūn-e-vafā na-ḳhvāhad kardan
dar ’ālam-e-dūñ mast-o-ḳharāb aulā-tar
With happy friends, the wine cup is more excellent and enjoyable to me, and if thou art in the grip of the hands of grief, what is best is to shed tears; since this miserable world will not be faithful, it is inebriation and detachment from it (the world) that is most excellent.
